Cross-Functional Internship
The Company
Paebbl is an industrial resilience company turning captured CO₂ into carbon-storing building materials. We accelerate the natural process of CO₂ mineralisation — in which CO₂ reacts with minerals to form stable carbonates from thousands of years — to a matter of hours, producing a carbon-negative powder that can replace conventional, heavily emitting cementitious materials. Having switched on the world's first continuous CO₂ mineralisation demonstration plant, we are now scaling from startup execution into structured industrial operations. It is a fast-moving environment where pragmatism, ownership, and the ability to build things that work in the real world matter.
The Role
Paebbl is looking for curious and proactive Cross-Functional Interns to join our internship program in Rotterdam. This role is designed for someone who wants to learn how a climate technology company moves from a working demonstration plant toward commercial operations, while making a practical contribution from day one.
You will work on one or more well-defined projects matched to your interests, field of study, and skills. Projects may sit within Talent and People Operations, commercial, finance, marketing and communications, engineering, operations, data and reporting, or other business support areas. You will work with experienced Paebblers across functions, translate open questions into useful outputs, and see how decisions are made in a fast-moving industrial start-up.
This is not a passive observational placement. You will receive structured onboarding, an assigned mentor, and regular feedback, while being trusted to own meaningful deliverables. Your work may involve research, analysis, documentation, coordination, process improvement, or hands-on support at the Rotterdam site, depending on the project you join. The person who succeeds in this role is curious enough to ask good questions, practical enough to turn them into action, and dependable enough to follow through.
Key Responsibilities
Take ownership of a defined project or set of deliverables agreed with your project mentor and the relevant function lead.
Support one or more Paebbl functions with research, analysis, documentation, coordination, or process improvement.
Work with teams such as Talent and People Operations, commercial, finance, marketing and communications, engineering, operations, and data and reporting to understand needs and produce useful outputs.
Gather, structure, and analyse information from internal documents, meetings, systems, and other relevant sources.
Prepare clear working materials such as briefings, trackers, presentations, process documentation, or recommendations.
Coordinate actions and follow up with stakeholders so that agreed tasks move forward and deadlines remain visible.
Identify simple ways to reduce manual work, improve information flow, or make a recurring process easier to run.
Communicate progress, risks, questions, and next steps clearly to your mentor and project stakeholders.
Participate in onboarding, group learning sessions, site or team activities, and regular reflection moments with the internship cohort.
Follow Paebbl’s confidentiality, safety, information-handling, and workplace expectations, including any requirements that apply when visiting the Rotterdam demonstration plant.
What We’re Looking For
You are enrolled in, or have recently completed, a bachelor’s or master’s program, In the Netherlands, relevant to business, engineering, science, sustainability, communications, finance, data, human resources, or another field that could contribute to a cross-functional project
You are available for a full-time internship in Rotterdam for an agreed period and can meet the requirements of your university or educational institution.
You communicate clearly in English, both in writing and in conversation; knowledge of Dutch is not required.
You can organise your own work, manage competing priorities, and deliver agreed tasks on time.
You are comfortable working with spreadsheets, presentation tools, documents, and digital collaboration platforms.
You can move from an ambiguous question to a structured plan, while knowing when to ask for context or support.
You are willing to work with people from different disciplines and adapt your communication style to the audience.
You pay attention to accuracy, handle sensitive information responsibly, and take pride in producing work that others can use.
You are motivated by Paebbl’s mission to turn captured carbon dioxide into lower-carbon building materials and want to understand how climate technology is scaled in the real world.
Nice to Have
You have completed a project, student association activity, part-time role, volunteer activity, or personal initiative that required you to coordinate people or deliver a concrete result.
You have experience with data analysis, visualisation, process mapping, research, project coordination, or improving a recurring workflow.
You have experience in a start-up, scale-up, industrial, engineering, climate technology, construction, materials, or sustainability environment.
You can work with basic automation or artificial intelligence tools to improve research, reporting, or administrative workflows while applying good judgement.
You have a connection to the Dutch university or applied sciences ecosystem, particularly in Rotterdam or the surrounding region.
The Person Who Will Thrive in This Role
You are pragmatic, proactive, and comfortable learning at start-up speed. You balance curiosity and strategic thinking with a willingness to do the hands-on work, from cleaning up a tracker to presenting a recommendation. You take ownership without needing constant direction, collaborate with a low ego, and stay effective when priorities change or the answer is not yet obvious. You want your work to matter and are energised by the opportunity to learn alongside people building a new industrial category.
What Success Looks Like After 3 Months
After three months, you have completed onboarding, built productive relationships with your mentor and key project stakeholders, and developed a working understanding of how Paebbl’s functions contribute to scaling from a continuous demonstration plant toward commercial operations. You have taken ownership of an agreed project or set of deliverables and have produced work that is accurate, useful, and ready for the relevant team to apply.
You are communicating progress proactively, asking better questions, and working with increasing independence. You have identified at least one practical improvement to a process, information flow, or recurring task, and you can clearly explain what you learned, what impact your work had, and what should happen next. Your mentor and project stakeholders see you as a reliable, curious contributor who adds capacity while learning quickly.
