This role will combine technical expertise in cement chemistry, materials science and concrete applications with project management skills to lead the certification process. You will oversee testing protocols, coordinate with regulatory bodies, and ensure that our products meet all necessary performance and safety standards for commercial use.
Key Responsibilities:
- Certification Process Management:
- Lead the strategy and execution of the European certification process for SCM or new binder systems as a cement replacement, focusing on standards like EN 197 and EN 206 and other regulatory frameworks.
- Serve as the primary liaison between the company and certification agencies, ensuring compliance with all relevant standards.
- Prepare, review, and submit the necessary technical documentation, performance data, and compliance reports required for certification.
- Performance Testing & Optimization:
- Plan and oversee performance tests (e.g., strength, durability, workability) to assess the suitability of SCM or new binder systems for use in cement and concrete applications.
- Collaborate with external laboratories, universities, and certification bodies to validate material properties in line with regulatory requirements.
- Analyse test results and work with the R&D team to optimize the SCM or new binder systems for the desired performance attributes, ensuring it meets industry standards for use in construction materials.
- Project Management:
- Act as the project manager for testing and certification activities, ensuring all milestones are met on time and within budget.
- Coordinate internal teams, including R&D, engineering, and product development, with external stakeholders such as testing labs, suppliers, and certification bodies.
- Track progress, manage risks, and provide regular updates to leadership on the certification process.
- Regulatory and Standards Expertise:
- Maintain an in-depth knowledge of European standards and certification requirements for cement and concrete products, staying up-to-date with any regulatory changes.
- Develop strategies to ensure compliance with evolving standards and integrate these requirements into product development processes.
- Identify and mitigate potential regulatory or compliance risks associated with SCM or new binders systems certification and use in the market.
- Collaboration with Industry Stakeholders:
- Establish relationships with key industry partners, regulatory bodies, and certification agencies.
- Represent the company at industry forums, standards committees, and certification meetings to advocate for the product’s acceptance in the cement and concrete markets.
- Work closely with cement manufacturers, concrete producers, and other key stakeholders to ensure smooth market integration post-certification.
- Data Analysis and Reporting:
- Analyse performance test data and prepare comprehensive reports detailing the material’s performance in compliance with European standards.
- Communicate findings and updates to both technical and non-technical teams, ensuring alignment on certification requirements and outcomes.
- Prepare scientific publications, technical papers, and presentations to promote the company’s SCM technology in industry and academic circles.
Qualifications:
- PhD or Master’s degree in Materials Science, Civil Engineering, Cement Chemistry, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in cement and concrete research, with a focus on standards and certifications.
- Expertise in European cement and concrete standards, particularly EN 197 and EN 206 and related regulatory frameworks.
- Proven track record of managing performance tests and certification processes for cementitious materials.
- Strong project management skills with experience coordinating cross-functional teams and external partners.
- Deep understanding of SCMs, cement chemistry, and the cement and concrete industries.
- Familiarity with CO2 mineralization or sustainable cement technologies is highly desirable.
- Strong analytical skills and experience working with testing data, standards, and compliance reports.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective collaboration with internal teams and external stakeholders.
