Job Overview:
The Controller will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the financial reporting and compliance functions. This role includes implementing effective financial and operational controls, also supporting strategic financial planning and analysis.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Management and Reporting:
- Oversee all accounting operations including Billing, Accounts Receivable (A/R), Accounts Payable (A/P), General Ledger (GL), Cost Accounting, Inventory Accounting, and Revenue Recognition.
- Prepare and publish timely monthly financial statements and ensure all financial reporting deadlines are met.
- Coordinate and direct the preparation of the budget and financial forecasts and report variances.
- Manage the administration of annual financial reports and ensure alignment of debits and expenses.
Compliance and Audit:
- Ensure quality control over financial transactions and financial reporting.
- Manage and comply with local, state, and federal government reporting requirements and tax filings.
- Coordinate the preparation of regulatory reporting and assist with internal and external audits.
Internal Controls:
- Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
- Implement and maintain financial controls and guidelines.
- Keep track of money used for subsidies received and maintain records of projects and expenditures.
Leadership and Development:
- Collaborate with other departments to support overall department and corporate goals and objectives.
Strategic Financial Planning:
- Provide financial analyses as needed, particularly for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
- Assist in developing and implementing new procedures and features to enhance the department's workflow.
Cost Management:
- Develop, manage, and monitor project budgets, ensuring accurate forecasting and effective cost control.
- Track and report on project costs, including labour, materials, equipment, and subcontractor expenses. Identify variances and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Prepare regular financial reports, including cost reports, budget status, and variance analysis. Present findings to project managers and senior management.
- Conduct detailed cost analysis to identify trends, potential risks, and opportunities for cost savings. Provide recommendations to optimize project performance.
- Ensure all cost control processes and procedures comply with company policies and relevant regulations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or CMA certification preferred.
- Minimum of 7-10 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3-5 years in a supervisory role.
- Strong understanding of GAAP and experience with financial reporting requirements.
- Proficiency in accounting software and MS Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work collaboratively and manage a team effectively.
- Experience in managing invoices, bookkeeping, and reporting cash flow management monthly or quarterly.
- Knowledge of Dutch GAAP is advantageous.
- Knowledge of ERP systems is preferred.
Preferred Skills:
- Proficiency in project management and financial software (e.g., SAP, Oracle, MS Project).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Certifications such as PMP (Project Management Professional) or CCP (Certified Cost Professional) are advantageous.
